Joan, you are amazing! I just read through everything on your site and found it inspiring and amazing. I have been mulling over the idea of making an attempt at RAAM so I find all of the detailed information very valuable. Thank you for posting so many details about both the race and your training leading up to the race.

I agree with others about your RAAM. I'm never gonna try this but I could not stop reading about your experience. Talking to you and Mike last September after White Mtn Double I thought you were planning the impossible but I was wrong.

Hi Joan.
Fantastic story. I've been sittiting here on my veranda in Sweden reading and thinking back to my own RAAM-experience.
In Kaiser WV. I was going to use the restroom but the guy behind the counter told me there were four ladys in there, and they had been there for along time. Now I know what was going on. Lycky for me that Walmart was close by. :-)

Joan, every new RAAM rider should read your story. You captured the real and essence of RAAM. I've crewed it in '84 and we had to do everything your crew did to keep our rider moving. Nothing much has changed about RAAM over the years! Your very moving account of your ride brought me to tears. I know how much you suffered to earn this RAAM finish! Would you like to go kayaking with me sometime? You need a complete change of scene, now that you're finished. Lots of hugs to you!!

Hi Joan,

That was me on the recumbent who said hello as we went by. I must say, I commented to my crew at the end of my pull how impressed I was with your climbing that late in the race. Kudos on a great race!

WOW is right! Joan, your account of your journey across America is riveting! The fear factor of falling asleep at any moment on your bike would have been enough of a deterrent for me! The fact that you overcame so many other challenges is truly amazing. I found the description of the crew/rider dynamics very interesting. I had no idea what a crucial role every team member plays. I send to you and your crew my heartiest congratulations on your 3000 mile journey! What an inspiring accomplishment!

Amazing! I followed most of the race and stayed up all night for the finish. Your first-hand account provided here was equally riveting. Thank you for sharing your inner thoughts. I am surprised you remember all the details. Congratulations to you and the entire crew.

Wow! An unvarnished account of your RAAM experience. Thank you for sharing the good, the bad, and the bizarreness that is truly the worlds toughest race. Congrats on your accomplishment. Now I think someone on your crew should step forward and give their side of the story... ;-)
